4 booked for pelting stones at kanwariyas

Bareilly: An FIR was lodged against four people for allegedly pelting stones at kanwariyas passing through Jahanabad road near Richha village under Devraniya police station on Wednesday night. They are residents of Richha village under Devraniya village. Police have booked four persons, including three unidentified men.Police said the incident happened when a group of 100 kanwariyas riding on two tractors were passing by Jahanabad road. On Wednesday, around 10:30 pm, around 100 kanwariyas from Atariya village under Nawabganj police station and some from Pilibhit were passing by when the incident occurred. Angry kanwariyas blocked the road, demanding arrest of the accused.

One kanwariya was injured as a result. Enraged, the Shiv devotees blocked the road for nearly three hours, bringing traffic to a halt. Police have booked four persons, including three unidentified men.Police said the incident happened when a group of 100 kanwariyas riding on two tractors were passing by Jahanabad road. The area is dominated by Muslim residents.Superintendent of police (rural) Satish Kumar said, “One of the accused has been identified. They are residents of Richha village under Devraniya village. They work as labourers. On Wednesday, around 10:30 pm, around 100 kanwariyas from Atariya village under Nawabganj police station and some from Pilibhit were passing by when the incident occurred. Angry kanwariyas blocked the road, demanding arrest of the accused. Passersby informed police and a police team was rushed there. After three hours of negotiations, they lifted the blockage and resumed their journey to Haridwar.”An FIR has been lodged against accused under IPC sections 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) and 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others).Police teams from Bhojipura, Nawabganj, Shergarh, Shishgarh, including Devraniya, were rushed to the spot to prevent the situation from turning ugly. Uttar Pradesh Provincial Armed Constabulary personnel also reached the spot.
