MORADABAD: Three sisters, including two minors, were run over by Himachal Express train while crossing a railway bridge in Rustampur village of Moradabad district on Monday morning.According to police, the accident took place when the girls were on their way home after performing ‘jalabhishek’ at a Shiv temple in Nagla village.The victims have been identified as Shivani (19), a student of BA first year, and her cousins Sheetal (11) and four-year-old Manu, students of classes IV and I, respectively.Katghar kotwali station house officer (SHO) Sanjay Garg told TOI, “After the post-mortem, the bodies were handed over to the families in the evening. We have launched a probe in this connection after registering an FIR.”According to local residents, the girls had taken the railway bridge as a shortcut route to their home. Some passers-by even tried to save the girls, but they jumped off the bridge seeing the train approaching them fast, they said.Additional divisional railway manager (ADRM), Moradabad, Sharad Srivastava told TOI: “After the accident, victims’ family members and villagers gathered at the bridge and protested against the railway authorities. They were demanding compensation. The protest hit the movement of trains on the Bareilly-Delhi section via Chandusi. Several trains were either halted at Chandusi or Moradabad railway station .”
