1,941 cases of ‘killer’ malaria strain, 3,887 of plasmodium vivax reported in Bareilly

Cases of the deadly malaria strain, plasmodium falciparum (PF), increased to 1 ,941 in the district while 3 ,887 cases of plasmodium vivax (PV) have been detected so far. Three PF cases were also reported from the city at a health camp organised in Sanjay Nagar locality.“There has not been any information about widespread PF cases in the city. After the spread of ‘killer’ PF, dengue cases have also been reported from private hospitals.Rajesh Kumar, head of Khangavan Shyama village in Majhgavan, said, “Thirty five-year-old Rajendra Pal, son of Rai Singh, was suffering from fever for the past two days. He died while he was being taken to a private doctor’s clinic in Aonla on Sunday. Another one-and-a-half-year-old boy, Pratik, son of Ramjeet Maurya, also succumbed from fever-related issues on Sunday.”Devidas, head of Nohra Hasnapur village, said, “Sohan Lal (45), son of Bhopat Ram, died due to fever on Sunday.”According to officials, 432 fresh PF cases came to light in Bareilly on Sunday, of which 246 were reported from Majhgavan alone. Three PF cases were also reported from the city at a health camp organised in Sanjay Nagar locality.“There has not been any information about widespread PF cases in the city. On Sunday, 71 teams checked 4,435 fever patients and conducted rapid diagnostic tests on 4,207 affected people,” said Dr Vineet Shukla, chief medical officer (CMO), Bareilly.The health department has also declared that residents in 109 villages of 10 blocks have been taken ill. The department has also claimed that the total number of deaths so far has been 24.“In a meeting with district magistrate VK Singh, authorities of several private hospitals informed that they have received cases of dengue as well. However, a written report on the number and names of patients is still awaited,” added the CMO.Meanwhile, Shubhlesh Yadav, district president of Samajwadi Party, visited a few affected villages in Majhgavan block. “Villagers told us that even though Bareilly has three ministers, none of them have visited the affected areas till date. Families of the deceased come from poor financial backgrounds but have not received any compensation from the government,” he said.Dr Manjit Singh, chief medical officer, Badaun, said, “In Badaun, 499 cases of PF and 1,093 cases of PV have been reported.” The health department in Badaun has claimed that 19 people have died due to fever so far.
