PF malaria cases mount to 4170, health dept to conduct indoor spraying in 50 villages

100 cases of PV and seven cases of PF malaria have come to light here. Bareilly: With 4,170 cases of plasmodium falciparum (PF) malaria, 9,080 cases of plasmodium vivax (PV) malaria and 14 cases of dengue being reported in Bareilly district in the past fortnight, the health department has decided to conduct mass indoor larvicidal spraying in 50 affected villages on Saturday. While the neighbouring Pilibhit district has reported 44 cases of PV and 19 cases of PF so far. After Bareilly, Badaun is the most affected district, where 1,088 cases of PF and 1,974 cases of PV malaria have been reported in the past fortnight. 397 cases of PF and 604 cases of PV malaria were detected.Officials said that nearly 150 villages in 10 blocks of the district have been affected.

Bareilly: With 4,170 cases of plasmodium falciparum (PF) malaria, 9,080 cases of plasmodium vivax (PV) malaria and 14 cases of dengue being reported in Bareilly district in the past fortnight, the health department has decided to conduct mass indoor larvicidal spraying in 50 affected villages on Saturday. As many as 46 persons have died of fever in Bareilly in the past one month.According to health department officials, they have been giving free medicines to patients and also been conducting fogging and larvicidal spraying regularly in the affected villages. “However, as vector-borne diseases will end only when mosquito breeding is stopped, we will continue larvicidal spraying in houses in 50 villages. We have chosen villages based on the number of patients there,” said Dr Vineet Shukla, Bareilly chief medical officer.A team of health department on Friday conducted random inspection at few private hospitals and government offices to check mosquito breeding. Though the team did not find larvae in private hospitals, it found mosquito larvae in PWD and Bareilly Municipal Corporation storerooms. “We will send our report to the district malaria officer who will send notices to government offices,” said entomologist Deepak Kumar.In the wake of rising number of patients, all community health centres and primary health centres remained open on Friday despite holiday. During the day, 5,124 persons complained of fever in Bareilly. Of these, rapid diagnostic test was performed on 4,869 people. 397 cases of PF and 604 cases of PV malaria were detected.Officials said that nearly 150 villages in 10 blocks of the district have been affected. After Bareilly, Badaun is the most affected district, where 1,088 cases of PF and 1,974 cases of PV malaria have been reported in the past fortnight. “23 persons have died of fever in Badaun. No dengue case has been reported here,” said Dr Asharam, CMO, Badaun.In the adjoining Shahjahanpur district, 92 villages under six blocks have been affected. 100 cases of PV and seven cases of PF malaria have come to light here. While the neighbouring Pilibhit district has reported 44 cases of PV and 19 cases of PF so far. Four persons have died of fever here.
