Bareilly: In a shocking incident, a woman hanged self reportedly due to harassment by her husband. The deceased’s husband has been nabbed and an FIR has been lodged against him for abetment of suicide.Sukh Devi (21), a resident of Lakhota village, was married to Amar Singh (24), a native of Bhaj Gottiya village under Sirauli police station in April this year. After marriage, she realised that her husband Amar, a labourer by profession, was an alcoholic.Singh allegedly started pressurising his wife to drink liquor with him and used to beat Devi when she refused to comply. Deceased’s father Bhoopram, said, “Since their marriage, Singh wanted to drink liquor with Devi. He offered her to drink liquor many times but she always refused. He started brutally beating her over the petty issues and also demanded money for liquor. A week before, I asked him to not force my daughter, to which he asked me to drink liquor with him.”On November 5, the couple went to stay with Devi’s father Bhoopram in Lakhota village under Cantonment police station. Adding that Singh kept on forcing Devi to consume liquor, Bhoopram said, “On Friday, at around 6 am, I saw my daughter’s body hanging from the room’s ceiling. I fainted at the sight while Singh escaped the scene. My neighbours informed the police about the incident and also nabbed Singh. He was handed-over to the police.”Cantonment police station house officer (SHO) Devendra Kumar Singh, said, “After getting the information about the incident, we rushed to the spot. We have sent the body for autopsy. Prima facie, it seems to be a case of suicide. We have lodged an FIR against the accused under 306 (abetment of suicide) of the IPC. The probe into the matter is underway.”
