Electrician gets shock while on duty, head gets severed

He alleged that the officials restored the power supply fully knowing that his son, Ashish Mishra, was working at the spot. Shahjahanpur: A 23-year-old contractual employee of the state power department was electrocuted and as a result his head got separated from his body while repairing a faulty transformer in Mailani area of Lakhimpur Kheri district.The horrifying incident took place on Sunday night. It was his task to check whether the supply was discontinued or not. The officials said that Mishra was standing atop the transformer when he got electrocuted by 11,000 volt current.Police said both the officials fled the spot and were informed by the locals about the incident.

However, the officials have refuted his claim.Meanwhile, Lakhimpur Kheri district magistrate has ordered an inquiry into the matter.Later, BJP MLA from Palia, Romi Sahni, met the aggrieved family and offered Rs 20,000 as compensation from his personal funds.According to officials in the power department, Ashish Mishra, along with lineman Kanhaiya Lal and an unidentified junior engineer of Sansarpur, was deployed to repair the transformer. The officials said that Mishra was standing atop the transformer when he got electrocuted by 11,000 volt current.Police said both the officials fled the spot and were informed by the locals about the incident. They said the deceased was identified with the help of the identity card, which was found in his wallet.Responding to the allegations made by the victim’s family member, the executive engineer of the power department, RK Srivastava, told TOI, “The victim climbed onto the transformer without even checking the power supply. It was his task to check whether the supply was discontinued or not. We are investigating the matter and collecting the details about this incident.”DM Shailandra Singh told TOI that he has set up an inquiry and added that the family members of the deceased will get compensation.Meanwhile, police have not registered an FIR till the filing of this report. The statement of the family members of the deceased is yet to be registered as well.SHO of Mailani police station, Alok Mani Tripathi, said, “The autopsy was done on Monday and the FIR would be soon registered against responsible persons under relevant sections of IPC.”Police said that the body of the deceased was handed over to family members and was cremated on Monday evening.
