Retd cop held for brandishing pistol, firing in air to scare neighbours

The 10-year-old son of Surjeet Tiwari was among the children. The boy rushed home and returned in a minute along with his older brother, Ayush.

Bareilly: Irritated with children playing outside his house in the gated Shivshakti colony under Prem Nagar police station area here, a retired police inspector allegedly went berserk and opened fire with an illegal weapon in a bid to threaten the neighbours. They snatched his weapon and lodged a complaint with police against him. He has been arrested.Trouble started when children were playing outside retired inspector KK Mishra’s house, police said. The 10-year-old son of Surjeet Tiwari was among the children. He was riding his bicycle around 8 pm. Suddenly, Mishra, who is in his 60s, pushed a stick into the spoke-wheel and the boy fell down. The boy rushed home and returned in a minute along with his older brother, Ayush. When Ayush questioned Mishra why he had attacked his brother, the former policeman retaliated by slapping the older boy.The boys went home to fetch their parents and they, accompanied by some neighbours, went to Mishra’s house and confronted him for his misbehavior with children.“When we asked him why he manhandled our sons, he went back to his house and came out brandishing his licenced pistol to scare us away. Some people protested and took away the weapon from him. Then, he again appeared with a countrymade weapon and fired several rounds in the air, creating chaos,” Tiwari said.On Saturday morning, police arrested the retired inspector on the basis of a complaint against him.Balbeer Singh, SHO, said they had lodged an FIR under Arms Act against Mishra, arrested him and produced him in court, which sent him to jail.
