Bareilly: The Bareilly Municipal Corporation (BMC) has identified as many as 70 commercial establishments, including hotels and lounges, having tax arrears of around Rs 3 crore.The civic body has already started serving notices to the identified defaulters to pay their dues, and soon recovery certificates will also be issued to the defaulters to remind them to clear their dues.According to BMC officials, a bill regarding the payment of amount is issued to the tax defaulter and 15 days are given to them to clear the payment. If the tax is not paid in the given time, a demand notice is served on them with additional 15 days’ time. If defaulters further fail to pay the dues, the process of attaching their property is initiated.Municipal commissioner RK Shrivastava said, “BMC has recently identified as many as 70 commercial property owners in various parts of the city, who have failed to pay their taxes for several years. The civic body has prepared a ward-wise list of defaulters and notices are being served to them. Notices are being served on the identified defaulters, directing them to pay the pending amount at the earliest.“We will soon be issuing recovery notices with a warning that the property in question could be sealed in case of non-payment. If defaulters still do not make payments, then the tax will be recovered by attaching their properties.”
