Bareilly: A Badaun court has sentenced two men with rigorous imprisonment of 20 years for gangrape of a woman in a village under Alapur police station of Badaun district in 2005.The court also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on each the convicts, and ordered to pay Rs 50,000 to the rape survivor from the fine paid.On January 26, 2005, when the woman had gone to relieve herself in the open, two men, including her brother-in-law, gangraped her and also robbed her of jewelleries.In his complaint lodged on January 27, 2005, the woman’s husband stated that his wife had gone for open defecation in the field around 6am. “The two men, Raghuvir and his elder brother, who were hiding there, dragged my wife inside the field and when she protested, they threatened her with a ‘tamancha’ (a country-made pistol). They gangraped her at the gunpoint and also robbed her of jewelleries. When my relative and I went to relieve in the open, my wife raised an alarm. We identified both the men, who ran away from the scene after abusing us,” said the complainant.On the husband’s complaint, an FIR was registered against Raghuvir and the brother-in-law of the rape survivor for rape and robbery.In his defence, the brother-in-law of the rape survivor stated that he was being framed by the couple owing to a property dispute between them. In their chargesheet, police had earlier booked both the accused for molestation, following which the woman’s husband protested in the court.Special judge Pankaj Kumar Agarwal on Monday sentenced Raghvir and the brother-in-law of the rape survivor for 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for gangrape.
