Pilibhit: A nine-year-old girl was severely injured after a 45-year-old villager stabbed her in the abdomen with a pair of scissors on Monday evening. The incident took place at Joshi Colony village under Neuria police station. The man was arrested on Tuesday. He has confessed to the crime.The girl was shifted to the district hospital in Pilibhit, where her condition is stated to be stable after surgery.According to Naresh Kashyap, SHO, Neuria police station, the accused identified as Vidyut Majoomdar is a resident of the same village. He was booked under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder). During interrogation, he confessed that he was drunk when he committed the crime. He was sent to jail.Asked what provoked the attack, the girl’s mother said Vidyut was an alcoholic and a disagreeable person. She said, “My daughter was returning home after buying some groceries from the village market when Vidyut accosted her on the way.”The girl was frightened and tried to avoid him by stepping away. He allegedly gripped her and stabbed her with a pair of scissors in the abdomen. Two residents rescued her and summoned police.The girl was shifted to hospital by the Dial 100 police team that rushed to the spot.It is not clear why Vidyut was carrying a pair of scissors, the SHO said.Last month, an inebriated man had thrashed a 12-year-old boy and pierced both his eyes with a sugarcane stalk at Muzaffarpur village in Sindhauli block of Shahjahanpur district. The victim had internal injuries and died of excessive bleeding.
