Wild boar mauls farmer to death in Kheri

After tigers and elephants, the wild boar has emerged as a new threat to residents of Lakhimpur Kheri district. Wild boars are fond of sugarcane and peanuts and often stray into fields having these crops from forests.Station house officer of Fardhan police station Shyam Narayan Singh said, “A farmer was killed by a wild boar on Thursday. Shahjahanpur: A 60-year-old farmer, Khemkaran, was mauled to death by a wild boar while he was cutting sugarcane in his field in Atkonwa village of Lakhimpur Kheri district.He was later rescued by farmers who were working in nearby fields but died before he could get any medical attention. Autopsy of the body was conducted on Friday and the report will be sent to the district administration so that his family receives compensation under the state natural calamity funds." Police and forest department were later informed about the incident and the dead body was sent for autopsy.The incident has triggered fear among villagers, who are now scared to work alone in their fields.
