2 tigers attack 2 persons in separate incidents in Kheri

Shahjahanpur: Two persons were critically injured in two tiger attacks reported from different locations in Lakhimpur Kheri district on Thursday.The first attack was reported from Devipur beat of South Kheri forest division, which is a social forestry region. A team of officials were sent the incident spot as well and pugmarks of a tiger were found in the forest area.” A 47-year-old man, identified as Kripa Ram, was attacked by a tiger while he was grazing his cattle along with other villagers inside the forest area. Kripa Ram lost an eye in the attack and his skull bone was also fractured. Her husband raised an alarm and people nearby came to his aid, forcing the tiger to flee.

Kripa Ram lost an eye in the attack and his skull bone was also fractured. He is currently battling for life in a Lucknow hospital.The second incident was reported from a village near Mailani range of Dudhwa Tiger Reserve, where a 40-year-old woman, Sarojini Devi, was injured in a tiger attack while she was working in her farm land.Kripa Ram had allegedly entered the forest area, where entry is banned, and that is why he may not be entitled for any compensation. However, district administration has ensured that he is provided medical treatment. At the same time, WWF-India have also decided to award him a compensation of Rs 10,000.Devipur beat is the part of Maheshpur range of south Kheri and despite not being a part of Dudhwa Tiger Reserve, some three big cats are reported to be in the area. Several incidents of human-tiger conflicts have been reported from here and local villagers had set the range office on fire last year.Sarojini Devi was keeping working in her agricultural field at kakori village, which is situated on the edge of Mailani range, when a tiger pounced on her. Her husband raised an alarm and people nearby came to his aid, forcing the tiger to flee. Thereafter, Sarojini was rushed to the community health centre, where doctor referred her to a district hospital in Lakhimpur city.Divisional forest officer Sameer Kumar told TOI, “A farmer who had ebtered into the forest area was critically injured in a tiger attack. He is currently undergoing treatment in Lucknow but has lost one eye. We are in touch with the family members to take a stock of his condition. A team of officials were sent the incident spot as well and pugmarks of a tiger were found in the forest area.”
