19 injured after UPSRTC bus falls into ditch

Bareilly: About 35 passengers travelling in a UPSRTC bus had a narrow escape after the bus veered off the road and fell into a trench on Meerut-Badaun highway under jurisdiction of Gunnaur police station in Sambhal district on Thursday night.The accident left 19 passengers on-board injured. Close to a dozen passengers who had received minor injuries were taken to their destination after being provided with the first-aid at a nearby private clinic. Police reached the spot after a passerby informed on Dial 100 about the incident. The injured passengers were taken to community health centre through emergency ambulance services 108 from where seven in serious condition were referred for higher facility in Aligarh.Police said that the bus was packed with passengers and was heading towards Badaun from Delhi.“The road is still under construction and since it was dark, the bus driver couldn’t realise the roadside trench while overtaking another vehicle resulting in the accident,” station house officer of Gunnaur police station Manoj Kumar said.Most of the passengers on board were from Badaun district.
