Passenger vehicle runs over four people, three dead, one critical

Bareilly: In a tragic incident, an elderly couple, their granddaughter and daughter-in-law were run over by a speeding passenger utility vehicle at CB Ganj on Tuesday night when they were on their way home after having participated in a religious function at a nearby temple.The family was crossing the road when a four-wheeler hit them leaving three, including the elderly couple and 11-month-old infant, dead, while 32-year-old Komal Giri was severely injured and is in a critical condition. The accused fled the scene, leaving the abandoned vehicle.The family had gone to attend a feast organised by the temple management on the auspicious occasion of Maghi Poornima (full moon of Magh month).The deceased have been identified as Dharavan Giri, 65, his wife Munni Devi, 60, and 11-month-old granddaughter Shivani.Dharavan was a vendor who sold helmets at a roadside makeshift shop on Rampur road next to Amrapali mall.According to police, after the incident, onlookers rushed the injured to a nearby hospital.Following the incident, traffic came to a standstill, with vehicles stranded on both sides of the accident site.
