Two Kashmiri students at IVRI put on ‘probation’ for derogatory posts against Army

Bareilly: Two Kashmiri students at Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) have been put on “conduct probation” and their monthly fellowship stopped after the duo allegedly posted what authorities claimed were “derogatory remarks against the Indian Army” on WhatsApp. It is an act of indiscipline as per the Regulations for Student’s Conduct and Discipline, 2017.”The students had posted the alleged messages on February 16, following which the student’s union lodged a complaint with the institute’s authorities. They will lose any office that they may be holding in any students' council. An order issued by IVRI authorities said, “On the recommendation of the standing committee on students’ welfare, problems and discipline of ICAR-IVRI and as approved by the competent authority, two students have been placed on conduct probation for the remaining degree programme for posting electronic messages defaming the Armed Forces.

An order issued by IVRI authorities said, “On the recommendation of the standing committee on students’ welfare, problems and discipline of ICAR-IVRI and as approved by the competent authority, two students have been placed on conduct probation for the remaining degree programme for posting electronic messages defaming the Armed Forces. It is an act of indiscipline as per the Regulations for Student’s Conduct and Discipline, 2017.”The students had posted the alleged messages on February 16, following which the student’s union lodged a complaint with the institute’s authorities. They will not receive any scholarship or fellowship during the period of conduct probation.The scholarship amount for master’s degree programme is Rs 7,560 per month for two years, with a contingent grant of Rs 6,000 per annum for two years. For doctoral programme, the monthly amount is Rs 13,125 for three years with a contingent grant of Rs 10,000 per annum for three years.Rakesh Kumar, joint director cum registrar at IVRI, said, “The students have accepted that they had made derogatory remark against the Indian army on WhatsApp. The two students are being kept on watch and have been warned. If they again commit such acts of indiscipline, they will be expelled from the institute.”
