We are probing the matter things will be clearer once the boy is better and is able to record his statement." Prima facie, it seems like the boy was carrying a country-made pistol which he accidentally fired at himself.

Bareilly: A student of class XI, 17-year-old Sumit Kumar, was allegedly shot at by some unknown assailants in Mannikhera village under the jurisdiction of Nakhasa police station of Sambhal district when he was returning home from a wedding. Police, however, claim that Kumar might have accidentally shot at himself.The incident happened on Thursday night. Kumar’s family rushed him to a hospital, where his condition is critical. His father Pitam Singh said, “After the barat had dispersed, my son was coming back home when someone shot at him and fled. They were on two motorbikes. When a passer-by spotted my son lying in a pool of blood, they informed me.”Station house officer (SHO) Ravindra Kumar said, “Other villagers, who were returning from the same wedding, saw no one escaping after shooting at the boy. Prima facie, it seems like the boy was carrying a country-made pistol which he accidentally fired at himself. We are probing the matter things will be clearer once the boy is better and is able to record his statement."
