Lakhimpur Kheri: A 14-year-old schoolgirl was allegedly raped by a 17-year-old boy of the same village in Mohammdi block in Lakhimpur Kheri district on Monday midnight.A case was registered under sections 376(rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the POCSO Act. Police said the POCSO Act might be dropped once police established the exact age of the accused.Police have detained the accused, who would soon be sent to a juvenile home after necessary documentation.Station house officer (SHO) of Mohammdi Kotwali DK Singh has deployed two constables in the village to ensure that violence doesn’t erupt as the houses of the accused and the victim are adjacent.SHO said, “The accused allegedly barged into the house of the victim and raped her, and threatened the girl of serious consequences if she revealed the matter to anyone. However, the girl alerted her family members, who nabbed the accused and handed him over to police. After registering an FIR, we sent the girl for a medical examination. Her statement will be recorded in the presence of a judicial magistrate.”“We are trying to verify the actual age of the accused, who claims himself to be a minor, but failed to produce documents to prove his age. We will send him to the juvenile house if he is a minor,” he added
