Bareilly: With the first phase of polling taking place on April 11 and parties going full throttle canvassing for their candidates, nearly 70 students’ outfits under the aegis of Young India National Coordination Committee are set to launch a pan-India “vote out BJP government” campaign to protest against Najeeb Ahmad and Rohith Vemula cases. The committee has decided to launch the campaign from Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh.Activists of these organisations — comprising both political and apolitical outfits — will address gatherings in different cities across the country, informing people about the “dismal performance” put up by the BJP government in areas such as job creation, education, social and gender issues. The conglomeration includes All India Students’ Association (AISA), Samajwadi Yuvjan Sabha, FTII Students Union and Alumni, BHU movement, Aligarh Muslim University Students’ Union, MANUU Students Union, Hyderabad, All Adivasi Students’ Organisation of Assam, Rozgar Mangey India, North East Student Forum, Delhi, Youth for Swaraj, Revolutionary Student and Youth Front, Karbi Student Association, Gujarat Central University Students, Chatra Bharati, Sarvodya Yuva Vahini, Panjab University Students’ Union, Chandigarh, and Loktantrik Yuva Janta Dal.Stating that they have selected Badaun to launch their campaign as Najeeb Ahmad, a JNU student who went missing under suspicious circumstances on October 15, 2016 from his hostel, is a native of this town, N Sai Balaji of AISA said they would highlight cases of Najeeb, Rohith Vemula and sexual harassment of girl students at Banaras Hindu University during the campaign.“Our campaign is aimed at the BJP government, which has deviated people’s attention from the real issues of job creation, education and social and gender inequality ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. We will ask people to vote against the Modi government,” said Balaji.Najeeb’s mother Fatima Nafees will also participate in the campaign in Badaun and address a gathering. Fatima, a resident of Badaun’s Vaidon Tola locality, has also started a campaign against the incumbent government on social media, saying, “If you are a chowkidar then tell me where my son Najeeb is? Why three top agencies failed to find my son?”Fatima told TOI, “I am not alone in my fight. I have support of the youth of the nation. I want my son back. When a new government is formed, I will urge the government to find Najeeb. I want to tell people that the BJP government did nothing to find Najeeb. Had they conducted an unbiased probe, they would have got a lead.”According to committee members, they are yet to seek the Election Commission’s permission for their campaign, thus a final date has not been announced, but most likely they will launch the campaign in the first week of April. “We will soon announce the schedules for different cities covered under the drive,” said Balaji.
