Shahjahanpur: Taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi after the rumour that he could contest from Kerala, UP deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said the Congress president could contest from 10 different seats, but it would hardly make any difference. “If people get an opportunity to vote directly for the prime ministerial candidates, then Rahul Gandhi won’t be able to save even his deposits.”Terming the Congress “disgraceful” for “raising questions over the credibility of armed forces” and “asking for proofs of air strikes in Pakistan”, Maurya said, “When the entire country is feeling proud of successful air strikes, the Congress is questioning it. Now, Pakistan doesn’t have courage to say anything against India.”Launching the poll campaign for BJP candidate from Lakhimpur Kheri Ajay Mishra at a Vijay Sankalp rally in Nighasan town, Maurya said, “Goddess Laxmi, a symbol of growth and prosperity, always prefers ‘Lotus’. It implies that prosperity and development of the country lies with the BJP government.”Boasting of PM Modi, he said, “The BJP ensured that all benefits are transferred directly into the accounts of beneficiaries, even as once a former congress PM had accepted that only 15% of the benefits reached to the actual beneficiaries. PM Modi is working religiously for demolishing the terrorist networks, eradicating poverty and corruption from the country. BJP government has provided free gas and electricity connections to almost all families in the country.”Urging people to vote for the BJP, Maurya said, “PM Modi is working selflessly for our country, and we should ensure that votes are not exercised in favour of those who want to stop Modiji from becoming PM again.”
