Bareilly: In an attempt to ease traffic movement on city roads, the Bareilly Municipal Corporation (BMC) along with traffic police is planning to make a few stretches one-way. “Several other pockets of the city witness traffic snarls on a daily basis. According to municipal corporation officials, they are in the process of identifying areas that witness traffic jams frequently so that these roads can be made one-way. “Making some roads one-way will really help commuters, who have to endure long jams while their way to work and also while returning home,” said a Bara Bazaar resident. “This particular stretch of road connects two most prominent junctions of the city and hence witnesses heavy traffic daily.

Bareilly: In an attempt to ease traffic movement on city roads, the Bareilly Municipal Corporation (BMC) along with traffic police is planning to make a few stretches one-way. According to municipal corporation officials, they are in the process of identifying areas that witness traffic jams frequently so that these roads can be made one-way. The modalities will be finalized in a meeting between traffic police and BMC soon, said an official.“Taking note of a few stretches that witness jams daily, we have decided to make them one-way. The process of identifying these roads has already been started,” said an executive engineer in BMC’s construction department.Sources in traffic police said a few areas that need to be made one-way have already been identified by the department, while work on identifying other such stretches is currently underway.Officials said that as of now, they have zeroed in on some areas including the stretch leading to the women’s police station at Rampur Garden, Choupla to Biharipur road and Bareilly College road. “Several other pockets of the city witness traffic snarls on a daily basis. Qutub Khana-Quila stretch, Bara Bazaar, Koharapeer and a few other stretches in Shyamganj, Old City and Prem Nagar are among such areas. We will conduct a final survey in these areas and will discuss the details with BMC,” SP (traffic) Kamlesh Bahadur told TOI.Traffic police officials further informed that plans are afoot to construct a divider between Choupla crossing and Chowki crossing near Police Lines. “This particular stretch of road connects two most prominent junctions of the city and hence witnesses heavy traffic daily. As the stretch is currently two-way, it should have a divider to avert accidents,” added the SP.Meanwhile, the city residents have welcomed the plan. “Making some roads one-way will really help commuters, who have to endure long jams while their way to work and also while returning home,” said a Bara Bazaar resident.
