Fractured track detected minutes before arriving train in Moradabad

Bareilly: In yet another incident of track damage, a possible train mishap was averted after a fractured piece was detected near Dalpatpur railway station in Moradabad district on Tuesday. On April 15, the Lucknow-bound Rajya Rani Express train was derailed on the same track near Rampur station, which had left more than 10 passengers injured. As soon as the patrol team spotted it, repair work was initiated. The fractured track, of around 10 inches, and pandrol clips (which join the track with the sleepers), were found scattered at the spot. Divisional railway manager (DRM), A K Singhal, told TOI, “Excessive contraction in the track due to temperature variation led to the crack.

A patrol team of gangmen spotted the damaged track around 7 am, minutes before the arrival of Howrah-Dehradun expresses (13009) that was running late.According to railway officials, cracks occur during winter due to fluctuation in temperatures. Divisional railway manager (DRM), A K Singhal, told TOI, “Excessive contraction in the track due to temperature variation led to the crack. As soon as the patrol team spotted it, repair work was initiated. We stopped the Howrah-Dehradun express at Dalpatpur station. It took around 40 minutes to complete the repair work.”Officials also said that the railways were in the process of implementing latest technology such as ultrasonic track detection system to detect fractures early in a bid to prevent mishaps.The incident led to the delay of several trains in the Lucknow-Delhi route. On April 15, the Lucknow-bound Rajya Rani Express train was derailed on the same track near Rampur station, which had left more than 10 passengers injured.
