FIRs have been lodged against Navneet Agarwal, the mayoral face of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), candidates of other prominent parties such as the BJP, SP, BSP and Congress and Independents contesting for councillor’s posts. Special surveillance teams are carrying out round-the-clock inspections to keep a tab on violators. According to information, except Agarwal, who was booked for issuing advertisements on radio, all other candidates were booked for putting up campaign materials on government properties without having prior permission from the returning officers concerned.Official sources said displaying campaigning materials on government properties is violation of the model code.

Whereas one must seek the owner’s permission before putting up campaign materials on private properties; not doing so is also violation of poll code, they added.Speaking with TOI, superintendent of police (city) Rohit Singh Sajhwan said, “In Agarwal’s case, the radio channel has also been booked, while other candidates have been booked for putting up banners and posters on government properties. Special surveillance teams are carrying out round-the-clock inspections to keep a tab on violators. Actions are being taken against them.”Additional district magistrate (city) O P Singh told TOI, “Congress’ Furkan Montu from ward 52, SP’s Shameem Ahmed and Shalini Jauhar from wards 52 and 54 and Independent Hina Tanveer are notable candidates for the councillor’s post who have been booked for code violation.
