Won’t allow Padmavati to release unless controversial portions are removed, says UP deputy CM Maurya

Pilibhit: Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Tuesday said that his government will not let the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film release in the state unless “controversial portions” are removed from it. He, however, added that the government “welcomes all ideas” to resolve the long-pending dispute.With inputs from agencies Yogi said that if there is any action, “it will be against both the sides”. “Islamic invaders created a lot of mayhem in the country. Maurya, who was in Pilibhit for an event, also said that his government will not allow anyone to “distort history”.Maurya’s comments came on a day when chief minister Yogi Adityanath said that Padmavati director Sanjay Leela Bhansali is no less guilty than those issuing threats to actors and others involved with the film.

Yogi said that if there is any action, “it will be against both the sides”. Lashing out at the filmmaker, the CM said that Bhansali was “habitual of playing with public sentiments.” He added, “No one has the right to take the law into his/her own hands whether it is Sanjay Leela Bhansali or anyone else.”Earlier, Maurya had claimed that queen Padmavati had sacrificed her life instead of surrendering before the Mughals and made a place for herself in the history. “Islamic invaders created a lot of mayhem in the country. The rani burnt herself alive in ‘Jauhar’ for her pride and dignity,” he said.On a question about the Shia Waqf Board offering an out-of-court settlement in Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case by suggesting that the temple can come up at the disputed site, while the mosque can be built in Lucknow, Maurya said that the government was not involved in this process. He, however, added that the government “welcomes all ideas” to resolve the long-pending dispute.With inputs from agencies
