BENGALURU: A 29-year-old beautician and her friend were arrested for allegedly murdering the former's stepmother at her house on 5th Main, Chamarajpet , on Tuesday afternoon. The killing came to light around 7pm when a neighbour entered the house and saw the victim lying in a pool of blood.Vijayamma, 55, alias Vijaya, a resident of Chamarajpet and native of Mangaluru , was single and ran a beauty parlour near Uma Theatre, Chamarajpet.G Sonu, also known as Sonu Singh, and her friend B Kumar, both residents of Dattatreya Block, KG Nagar, were arrested within 24 hours of the murder. Sonu is an assistant at a beauty parlour at KG Nagar and stayed in a paying guest accommodation, police said. Kumar is an assistant at the same PG. Police recovered gold ornaments, including a necklace, two bangles and two ear-rings st olen from Vijayamma."Vijayamma had told her neighbours that Sonu Singh, who hails from Punjab, was her step-daughter and Sonu had no other family. Sonu often visited Vijayamma," police said.In their confession, Sonu and Kumar said they were in financial trouble and hatched the plan to murder Vijayamma and rob her gold."Sonu visited Vijayamma around 1pm and cooked a meal. A little later, Kumar came by with liquor," said DCP (West) MN Anuchet.The three of them had liquor and food, police said. "When Vijayamma was standing in the kitchen, Kumar strangled her using a cloth. When Vijayamma resisted, Sonu hit her head with a wooden object," police said.When Vijayamma died, they removed the gold ornaments she was wearing. They broke open the cupboard and searched for cash and other valuables, police said.Police scanned CCTV footage and found that Sonu and Kumar were the last to visit Vijayamma. "Women cops arrested Sonu at her PG and Kumar was arrested from an apartment in the same area where he had hidden the ornaments," police said.
