more-in The Malleswaram police have arrested a 34-year-old unemployed graduate for duping several people of lakhs of rupees after promising loans under the Prime Minister's Micro Units Development and Refinance Agency (MUDRA) scheme. According to the police, the accused, Punith, is a resident of Srirampura. He convinced people that he was on good terms with bank officials who would help them get loans in return for a commission. “He duped as many as 70 people of lakhs of rupees,” police said. Based on a complaint filed by a businessman from Malleswaram, police tracked him down and arrested him on Tuesday. Punith had allegedly promised to help the businessman, Nandish, get a ? 4lakh loan, and took a commission of ?70,000. Other victims include a businessman who paid him ?3.8 lakh for a ?50 lakh loan and a taxi driver who gave him ?64,000 as commission for a loan of ?4 lakh. “Punith would often hire the taxi driver, Shivaprasad. The driver spread the word among his friends and colleagues who approached Punith seeking help in getting a loan to start their own business,” said the police. Punith would issue receipts for the money taken and give them the name of the bank that would be issuing the loan. “We have booked him for cheating, forgery and impersonation. He has been remanded in judicial custody,” police said.
