Congress takes early lead in Jayanagar Assembly election

It's a close fight between the BJP and the Congress in Jayanagar assembly constituency elections, the counting for which began on Wednesday morning. With four rounds of counting completed, Congress candidate Sowmya Reddy is leading with 16,438 votes and BJP candidate B.N. Mr. Prahlad is the brother of BN Vijaya Kumar, a senior leader from BJP, who passed away in May this year. The BJP fielded Mr. Prahlad to garner sympathy votes as the constituency had been a BJP stronghold for ten years now. Elections to this constituency was held on Monday.

Prahlad with 11,090 votes. Mr. Prahlad is the brother of BN Vijaya Kumar, a senior leader from BJP, who passed away in May this year. The BJP fielded Mr. Prahlad to garner sympathy votes as the constituency had been a BJP stronghold for ten years now. Meanwhile, independent candidate Ravi Krishna Reddy, who had drummed up his campaigning activities over the last three months and was expected to stand as a tough competition to the other two candidates, has made a slow start. Until now, only 281 votes have been polled in his favour.
