Burglars strike at ex-chief secretary’s house

Police registered a case on Sunday morning.The burglars broke open the back door and entered the house in Block 7, Sector 7, 1st C Main, MCHS Colony. A retired IPS officer’s house was looted last week.Mukherjee, who retired as chief secretary in 2016, had gone out along with his family when the incident took place between 11am and 11pm. But preliminary investigation indicates the crimes have been committed by two separate gangs.Murthy retired as IGP in 2008. Police are yet to collect details of the stolen property from Murthy, as he hadn’t furnished them while filing the complaint last Thursday. The burglary came to light when he and his family members returned from Mulabagilu, near Kolar.

BENGALURU: Burglars struck at the residence of former Karnataka chief secretary Kaushik Mukherjee in HSR Layout, southeast Bengaluru, on Saturday and made away with valuables worth Rs 25 lakh.This is the second instance of a top retired bureaucrat in the area being targeted recently. A retired IPS officer’s house was looted last week.Mukherjee, who retired as chief secretary in 2016, had gone out along with his family when the incident took place between 11am and 11pm. The incident came to light when Mukherjee returned. According to Mukherjee, the burglars decamped with six costly wristwatches, 20 earrings, six bangles, three diamond earrings, two diamond rings and 10 pens, all worth Rs 25 lakh.It was the list he prepared when he got to know about the burglary. He told us the updated list will be provided later, after he checks the house thoroughly,” a police officer said.HSR police, who are investigating both the burglary cases — retired IPS officer MV Murthy’s house was looted between June 11 and 14 — are trying to ascertain whether thesame gang isbehind them. But preliminary investigation indicates the crimes have been committed by two separate gangs.Murthy retired as IGP in 2008. The burglary came to light when he and his family members returned from Mulabagilu, near Kolar. “We’ve verified both crime scenes and realized the modus operandi was different. We’ve collected evidence and will crack the cases soon,” a police officer said.Miscreants decamped with gold ornaments and cash from Murthy’s residence on 12th Main in 4th Sector, HSR Layout. Police are yet to collect details of the stolen property from Murthy, as he hadn’t furnished them while filing the complaint last Thursday.
