Shivakumar, at Vidhana Soudha on Thursday. | Photo Credit: V Sreenivasa Murthy more-in Infosys Foundation signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to build a metro station at Electronics City and maintain it for 30 years. The Foundation would be spending up to Rs. 200 crore to build the station at Konappana Agraharam, near the Infosys campus. As part of the MoU, it will get naming rights for the station, which will be called ‘Infosys Foundation – Konappana Agrahara Metro station’. The station is part of the metro line under Phase II from R V Road to Bommasandra. The MoU was signed by Sudha Murthy, chairperson of the Foundation, and BMRCL MD Ajay Seth in the presence of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy at Vidhana Soudha, on Thursday. The station will be spread over 2 lakh square feet, and the Foundation has decided to provide 3,000 square feet of space within for local craftsmen to showcase their talent and host exhibitions free of cost. The roof will be designed to tap solar energy. It will have a bridge connecting to the Infosys campus. Prior to signing the MoU, Ms. Murthy said the initiative is an effort to join hands with State government to provide metro connectivity, which is the need of the hour in Bengaluru, given the rapid increase in population. “This is a small expression of gratitude, to give back to our motherland and serve the people,” she said. Mr. Kumaraswamy thanked the Foundation. “The contribution of the Foundation to society is a known fact. In the past, it has supported many cancer institutes and educational organisations in the State. The State government will extend all support to the Foundation to implement the project,” he said.
