BENGALURU: Four people, including three women, died on Wednesday after their car collided with a BMTC bus at 2.45pm on Yamalur-Doddanekundi Road, off Old Airport Road here. One woman is battling for life at a private hospital.Among the victims, Levin Joseph, 24, his mother Nirmala Mercy Joseph, 56, died on the spot, while their relatives Yalasamma, 52, and Reena Britto, 50, died at Jeevika Hospital . Sreeja, another relative travelling with them, is undergoing treatment at Vydehi Hospital.The group was returning from the funeral of Levin’s uncle who had passed away on Tuesday. Levin’s father Joseph, who also attended the funeral near Ulsoor, had stayed back at his brother’s house while Levin and the others left for home.According to police, prima facie, Levin collided with the BMTC bus while overtaking another car; the bus was on the correct side of the road. However, further investigation will reveal the exact details of the accident, an officer said.“Levin and Nirmala lost a lot of blood and died immediately. Reena and Yalasamma too couldn’t be saved, given the nature of the injuries they suffered,” police said, pointing at the victims’ car, a black Santro (KA-53-Z-1581) that was completely damaged.The family, relatives said, moved to Bengaluru 20 years ago when Joseph got a job with a private company in the city. They have been living in Munnekolalu, near Doddanekundi.Joseph learnt about the accident only around 4.30pm, said a relative. “We were still at Joseph’s brother’s house, consoling his family. At the time when traffic police called us to inform about the accident, we did not know all of them were dead,” the relative said.Levin had just returned to Bengaluru from Dubai, where he had been working. While reasons for his return could not be immediately ascertained, relatives confirmed that he had been hunting for a job in Bengaluru. Police said postmortem examinations will be conduced on Thursday, after which the bodies will be handed over to the family.While both the vehicles have been seized, the driver has been detained for questioning, police said. The bus was supposed to go to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) from HAL airport bus stand.
