more-in Singling out problem areas during power cuts is set to get easier and faster in two more sub-divisions of the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom). The power utility’s ambitious DAS (Distribution Automation System) project, which made its debut in the city earlier this year, will be implemented in two sub-divisions by next week. Bescom Managing Director C. Shikha said the DAS project will be ready for implementation in the Vidhana Soudha and Rajarajeshwari Nagar divisions. “Validation is going on. We will have to do a rehearsal before it is implemented. It will be rolled out latest by October 12,” added James Philip, General Manager, DAS, Bescom. Reducing down time The major advantage of the project — which is aimed at ‘automating the 11kV distribution network for remote monitoring, control and operation’ of the network in the city — is to ‘enhance the reliability and quality of power supply’ by reducing the down time for fault location and quick restoration of power using technology. “It enables Bescom to analyse the fault sooner in case of outages, through which it is easier to reduce the time of the outage,” officials said. The project was started this February in HSR Layout. Plans were afloat to extend the project to the adjacent divisions of Koramangala and Jayanagar. But that did not work out. “We could not carry out DAS project work in these divisions due to technical reasons. There were other development works happening simultaneously in these divisions. That is why we decided to implement it in the Central Business District,” Bescom officials said. Malleswaram, Rajajinagar next Bescom is planning to implement the project in Rajajinagar by October-end, and officials said ground work has begun. The power utility is looking at rolling out the project in Malleswaram division by the second week of November.
