On Monday morning, a vehicle got stuck in the sinkhole and an earthmover had to be hired to retrieve it,” said a resident of Nallurhalli. “Sinking may happen due to improper soil consolidation,” said BWSSB Chief Engineer of Projects Manjunath, who assured to fix the road on Tuesday. Tired of the alleged official apathy and high levels of pollution, residents have planned a protest on Wednesday. Residents under the banner of Nallurhalli Rising conducted a check on pollution levels and found it to be as high as 200 ppm [accepted levels are 50 ppm]. “My three-year-old son goes to a playschool on Borewell Road. Most of the kids are suffering from cold and cough, and the doctors say it is due to pollution. My son’s school is right on the road and dust enters the school premises. The children play in the ground which is next to the road,” said Praveen Kumar. “The road is used by many vehicles and is in a horrible condition,” he said and added that someone walking on the road in the evening would find dust on their forehead within a few minutes.
