Cubbon Park stands up to protect its canines

Priya Chetty-Rajagopal , found er of the Cubbon Park Canines, said the van left around 7:30am and all the strays, save a couple, were tracked down. Nothing really happened but we are worried what happened to Lalbagh might happen to Cubbon Park too. It was just another Tuesday morning for Kumkum Malhotra , a dog lover and a member of Cubbon Park Canines , when she noticed a large van stationed at the park's entrance near the high court. Security guards at the gate informed her that the van had been there since 5:45 in the morning.Presuming that the beloved park canines would be taken away , she got in touch with the community's core committee. Rajagopal said soon after she made a few calls and posted about the situation on Facebook and Twitter, she got calls from animal lovers from different places.

Soon, 30 dog lovers gathered at the park in solidarity . Priya Chetty-Rajagopal , found er of the Cubbon Park Canines, said the van left around 7:30am and all the strays, save a couple, were tracked down. "Some of them are missing but it's a big park and they could be anywhere. Nothing really happened but we are worried what happened to Lalbagh might happen to Cubbon Park too. We don't want to accuse anyone of anything but simply want to work with the authorities collaboratively," she said, adding that Cubbon Park deputy director Mahantesh Murgod had always been patient in his interaction with them.What was comforting is the way that the community of animal lovers rallied together to save their beloved canines. Rajagopal said soon after she made a few calls and posted about the situation on Facebook and Twitter, she got calls from animal lovers from different places."Someone called me from Germany and offered to speak to the deputy director. All our animal welfare channels responded immediately . It got to a point where I had to tell people to head back. For us, they are not stray dogs, they are Minzy and Fluffy ," she said.Rajagopal said the community ensured that stray dogs in the park were neutered, vaccinated and treated for canine distemper.
