68 students are participating in the space camp, which has been organised by Cindrebay Nurture in collaboration with ISRO. | Photo Credit: Handout E Mail more-in For the past six days, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) campus has been hosting 68 students from across the country as part of a space camp organised by Cindrebay Nurture, a city-based education enterprise, in collaboration with scientists from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Scientists and researchers from ISRO, Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) and Indian Institute of Space Science & Technology (IIST) are sharing their knowledge on ‘Detection of Gravitational Waves’, ‘Search for Habitable Planets’ and other topics. The students got an opportunity to visit the ISRO Satellite Centre and the ISRO Telemetry Tracking and Command Network. They also interacted with student-led Team Studsat from NMIT, which launched its own satellite. The camp was inaugurated by P.J. Bhat, former Director, ISAC, and Dr. P.S. Goel, former Chairman, ISAC and former Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, at the National Institute of Advanced Studies in the IISc. campus. In his inaugural address, Dr. Goel talked about the need for critical thinking and curiosity. “Curiosity is the most precious asset of the human mind,” he said. Mustafa (15) from Innisfree House School and Arunit (14) from Kumarans School are attending the camp for the second time in a row. They were extremely excited to learn about the science behind orbital satellites and space technology. The camp will end on Saturday.
