The Special Investigation Team (SIT) that is probing Lankesh’s death have now sought the court’s permission to get the cartridges recovered in the Kalburgi case. It has already been proved that the same country-made pistol was used to kill Kalburgi and Pansare,” said an official of the SIT team. SIT questions Indrajit LankeshThe Special Investigation Team on Wednesday questioned Indrajit Lankesh, Gauri’s brother, in connection with her death. Another senior officer cautioned that it was premature to conclude that the same weapon was used in both the killings. “We are trying to check the weapon Indrajit had, but he is not cooperating with the investigations,” a senior police officer said.

more-in While it has been established that 7.65 mm cartridges — also used in the murders of M.M. Kalburgi and Govind Pansare — were recovered from the verandah of journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh’s house where she was shot dead on September 5, the police have yet to conclusively prove that the same murder weapon was used in all the three cases. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) that is probing Lankesh’s death have now sought the court’s permission to get the cartridges recovered in the Kalburgi case. “When we get the evidence, the FSL will be able to conclusively show whether the same weapon was used, putting all other theories to rest. It has already been proved that the same country-made pistol was used to kill Kalburgi and Pansare,” said an official of the SIT team. Investigators have already established that a country-made weapon was used to kill Lankesh. Another senior officer cautioned that it was premature to conclude that the same weapon was used in both the killings. “This can be ascertained only with the ballistic report. It usually takes over 15 days for the report, but we have requested the FSL officials to expedite the probe as it is a high-profile case,” the senior officer said. Until this is proved, the police will continue to probe all angles. SIT questions Indrajit Lankesh The Special Investigation Team on Wednesday questioned Indrajit Lankesh, Gauri’s brother, in connection with her death. This was done, said the police, as in 2005 Gauri had filed a complaint accusing Indrajit of threatening her with a gun over a property dispute. “We are trying to check the weapon Indrajit had, but he is not cooperating with the investigations,” a senior police officer said.
