Bhopal: Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner has written a letter to Public Works Department (PWD) chief engineer citing the need to repair roads maintained by PWD. The repair work of city roads is top notch priority, said BMC commissioner Frank Nobel in a high-level meeting of the civic body officials. Most of the main roads in Bhopal city are under the PWD. BMC caters to the maintenance of VIP road, Boat Club and 25 km of the BRTS corridor. In the last few years, both PWD and BMC have come out publicly lamenting the poor condition of the roads. For its part, PWD blames the BMC for digging its roads for infrastructure development works, and holds the civic body responsible for the repairs. A ward-wise plan has been formulated for repair of roads. However, even in a public tender issued by BMC earlier this month, specifics of locations to be repaired was missing. The BMC commissioner also reviewed traffic routes for movement of VIPs and the ongoing Ganesh Utsav. He gave instructions to arrange the routes of the procession and immersion ghats and repair of the roads on the approach routes. Nobel also gave instructions to complete the works sanctioned from the funds of MP, MLA and corporators without delay. Nobel had called for a meeting of the officials of the civil works wing of the BMC. Officials were instructed to to immediately submit proposals related to renovation works, filling potholes among other necessary repair works on priority basis. Nobel also gave instructions to prioritise the works in VIP movement areas.
