Caretaker of PHQ tennis court dies on duty, cardiac arrest suspected

The caretaker (constable) of the tennis court died while on duty at the Police Headquarters (PHQ) in Bhopal on Tuesday morning. Many IPS officers were present there at the time of the incident. The officers also took the caretaker to the hospital. Doctors have expressed the possibility of cardiac arrest. The police have not registered a case in the death case. Umakant Rai was resident of Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, was a constable in the 23rd battalion in Bhopal. His duty was on the tennis court. Like every day, he reached for duty on Tuesday morning. The incident took place between 7 and 7:30 in the morning, and some top police officers were playing tennis. After some time he went to the restroom near the court. After sitting on the chair he closed his eyes.  During this time he suffered chest pain. He was immediately taken to Anant Heart Hospital located at Jawahar Chowk. After checkup, doctors declared him dead. It is being told that at that time IPS Rajesh Chandel and other officers were playing tennis in the tennis court. Commandant Ajay Priyanand from the 23rd Battalion said that Umakant Rai was posted as a constable in the 23rd Battalion. He was a resident of Ghazipur (Uttar Pradesh). He has a daughter and a son. Daughter studies in Delhi. Son is pursuing engineering in Bhopal. The family members have left for Ghazipur with the dead body. Commandant Ajay Priyanand said on the postmortem not being conducted, if the death had occurred under any suspicious circumstances then PM would have been conducted in it. The constables family also did not agree to this. After the incident the family members of the constable reached the hospital. The dead body was given to him. Praveen Rai, son of constable Umakant Rai, said – Father was suffering from chest pain for a long time. He was also undergoing treatment. We got information about it this morning around 7:30, then we reached the spot. It was found out that he had died. We did not have to get the post mortem done. We are going to UP now. Retired DGP Surendra Singh says that the privilege of postmortem remains with the doctor only. After checkup, PM is done only if the doctor says so.
