AIIMS hosts CME cum workshop on Biomarker Interpretation

The Department of Pathology and Lab Medicine at AIIMS Bhopal organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) cum Workshop focusing on biomarker interpretation in Breast Cancer on April 6th, 2024. The program was inaugurated by Prof (Dr) Ajai Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, who commended the Department of Pathology & Lab Medicine for their proactive efforts in organizing such an insightful event. He emphasized the critical importance of sensitizing the public about the early detection of cancer. Timely detection plays a pivotal role in improving outcomes and increasing survival rates for individuals battling this disease. Cancer remains a significant health challenge globally, and early detection can make a profound difference in treatment options and prognosis. Through awareness campaigns, education initiatives, and community outreach programs, we aim to empower individuals with knowledge about the signs and symptoms of cancer, as well as the importance of regular screenings.  Earlier, Prof. Vaishali Walke, Head of Pathology while welcoming the gathering highlighted the pivotal role of biomarkers in the management of Breast Cancer. Prof. Deepti Joshi introduced the audience to the DIAMonDs project currently underway in the Department of Pathology at AIIMS Bhopal. This project, funded by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), offers free-of-cost testing of biomarkers for breast and lung cancers.                                      A highlight of the event was the insightful presentation by guest speaker Prof. Sandeep Mathur, a senior Professor of Pathology from AIIMS New Delhi. Prof. Mathurs talk on prognostic and predictive biomarkers in breast cancer provided attendees with valuable insights into the field of Breast Pathology. More than 65 delegates including faculty members and postgraduate students from various medical colleges and hospitals across Madhya Pradesh participated in the workshop. The post-lunch sessions included hands-on training on the ABC of FISH technique, demonstration of Immunohistochemistry (IHC) tests, grossing of breast specimens, and slide viewing sessions.
