A marriage party reception turned a nightmare for the grooms family after the cash and jewellery gifted by friends and relatives were stolen from the venue on Monday evening. The incident occurred at a hotel at Baliapandasahi in Puri. The grooms family was holding the marriage reception at a hotel where invitees gifted cash and jewellery to the bride and the groom. At the end of the party, the grooms family collected all the gifts and kept them in a bag. But they left the bag unattended for some time. After returning, they found the bag missing. CCTV footage showed two miscreants working in tandem to loot the jewellery bag from the venue. While one waited outside the hotel gate, another decamped with the bag from inside the hotel. A complaint was filed at the Baliapanda police station, following which the police have launched a probe in this connection. Notably, looters dressed as Baratis had looted Rs 5-lakh cash and jewellery from a wedding mandap in Bhubaneswar on February 10.
