Prospects of climate smart farming discussed

A national seminar on Climate Smart Agriculture was organised by ANANYA in collaboration with the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) here on March 3.   OUAT VC Prof Pravat Kumar Roul addressed the session as chief guest and discussed various prospects of climate smart agriculture in Odisha. He elaborated how climate change is turning the lives of farmers upside down, laying focus on unpredictable weather patterns, shorter growing seasons, droughts, extreme temperatures, and increased exposure to pests and crop diseases.   Director, Centre for Climate Smart Agriculture, SoA University Dr RK Panda, General Manager, APEDA, Government of India VK Vidyarthi and Chief General Manager, NABARD, Bhubaneswar Dr Sudhanshu KK Mishra addressed the session as guests of honour. Six successful farmers were felicitated on the occasion.   After the inaugural session, two technical sessions were held on climate smart agriculture techniques, how it can help farmers adapt with and prepare for impacts in order to preserve and even improve their livelihoods.   The inaugural session started with a welcome address by ANANYA executive secretary Sukanta Kumar Panigrahi, while advisor Amareswar Mishra gave the vote of thanks.
