Civic body chief toughens stand on LED project

The project is supposed to end by May 2019 and civic authorities are hopeful to get some relief from their hefty power bills and also people will get better lighting on the city roads. She also threatened to impose penalty on the company if it doesn't work properly.The work had started on November 6 last year and as of now only a few selected areas have been covered under this project. LUDHIANA: Having seen the poor pace of ongoing work of replacement of ordinary street lights with LED lights, municipal commissioner KP Brar has issued instructions to start work in all four zones of city from Monday.She conducted a meeting with representatives of the contractor company and asked it to deploy staff of 25 persons in each zone and complete the work in a given time period. In the general house meeting on February 4 also the councilors had raised a hue and cry over non-functional street lights in their wards after which the commissioner had announced that work would commence in each zone by February 15 but in the meeting she asked the company to do it from Monday onwards.While confirming the same, Brar said, “The company representatives are working too slowly and if we do not pull up them, it will become difficult to complete the work in time.” She said she would conduct the review meeting again in the next week for seeing whether they have increased the pace of work or not.Notably, this project has been started under smart city mission and over 1 lakh ordinary lights are to be replaced with LED lights.
