To ease traffic woes, UT plans two underpasses

A large number of people cross over from Sector 43 ISBT to the other side of road in Sector 52. The traffic police had written to the UT Administration about it several times. Meanwhile, the underpass on the road separating Sectors 11 and 15 on Madhya Marg is used less and gets waterlogged during rainy season.

Chandigarh, July 15 The construction of two new underpasses, on the roads separating Sectors 43 ISBT and 52 and Panjab University (PU) and the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), will start soon. “For hassle-free vehicular flow, the new underpasses will be constructed soon,” said UT Adviser Manoj Kumar Parida. The Administration will appoint a consultant for study and planning of the two projects. The consultant will study the quantum of traffic on the two roads and which services passed underneath them. The consultant will also finalise the project designs. A large number of people cross over from Sector 43 ISBT to the other side of road in Sector 52. It not only leads to traffic disruption but also poses a threat to them. Crossing the PGIMER/PU road on Madhya Marg is also difficult. Due to huge traffic rush, pedestrians have to wait for a long time to cross the road. It is a very busy road. The traffic police had written to the UT Administration about it several times. Roughly, each underpass is expected to cost about Rs 8 crore though officials have not finalised the estimate yet. Meanwhile, the underpass on the road separating Sectors 11 and 15 on Madhya Marg is used less and gets waterlogged during rainy season. The Locations
