DEHRADUN: Work at tehsil offices came to a halt on Tuesday as employees launched a two-day strike against delay in implementation of a government order which reserved 10% of the vacancy of nayab tehsildar post for ministerial employees. Employees boycotted work after a strike call by Uttarakhand Collectorate Ministerial Employees Union (UCMEU).Rajender Kumar, head of UCMEU, said, “Our demand for 10% reservation on nayab tehsildar’s post has been pending for many years. Two years ago, the cabinet had approved the decision and a government order had been issued but the matter was put on the back burner due to objection by the employees’ union of the revenue department.”After the state government accepted the demands of collectorate ministerial employees, workers of the revenue department had launched a protest against the decision. The UCMEU had launched another agitation which had forced the state government to impose no work-no pay and Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) against the employees.“A cabinet sub-committee appointed by the state government which included the then cabinet ministers Indira Hridesh, Yashpal Arya and Harak Singh Rawat had failed to arrive at a solution. Now, revenue secretary Harbans Singh Chugh will hold a detailed talk with us tomorrow,” said Kumar.Meanwhile, citizens said that they had a tough time as no work was being done in tehsil offices.Mohan Singh Bisht, a resident of Balawala, said that he was called by tehsildar on Tuesday so that he could be sanctioned funds from chief minister’s relief fund to rebuild his house which was destroyed in rain last year. “I was waiting for this day for a year but the office was empty when I reached there.”
