Pilibhit-Tanakpur train flagged off

RUDRAPUR: Union minister of state Ajay Tamta flagged off a train to connect Tanakpur in Champawat district with Pilibhit in UP on Wednesday. The train was inaugurated at the Tanakpur railway station under Izzatngar division months after traffic on the track was suspended to convert the Tanakpur-Pilibhit track from metre gauge to broad-gauge.K D Kapri, station-in-charge of Tanakpur railway station, said, that this was the first passenger broad-gauge train. The trial run covered a distance of 50km in approximately 1 hour. The load bearing capacity of the track was also checked and the officials declared it safe. He said that the train which has 12 coaches reached Khatima safely.The local residents welcomed the launch of the train as it would make it easier for devotees coming to Poornagiri shrine for a local fair that kicks off on April 3.Jitendra Singh, station master of Khatima railway station, said, “The train had a halt of five minutes in Khatima and then it departed for Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh.

From Thursday, four trains will operate between Tanakpur and Pilibhit.”Officials from the Northern Railways division led by Sanjeev Agrawal, traffic in-charge (operations) at Pilibhit office, had overseen a trial run of the locomotive on December 23. The trial run covered a distance of 50km in approximately 1 hour. The load bearing capacity of the track was also checked and the officials declared it safe.
