Forest range officer suspended for felling 214 trees sans permit

Nainital: The forest range officer of Tanda range of Terai-Central forest division has been suspended by the divisional forest officer after 214 trees were felled allegedly without permission.
The inquiry in the matter is on.”Sources said that more people may face heat during the inquiry.
The trees were felled on a land last week which had been transferred to Indian Railways for a project.Senior officials from the forest department said that trees cannot be felled without the permission from the department.Parag Madhukar Dhakate, conservator of forests, Western Circle, Kumaon division told TOI, “A report regarding felling of trees without permission was sent to higher officials following which directions to place the officer in question, B S Mehta, under suspension were issued.
