Rudrapur : Lubna Khan Birring, a city dentist emerged as the winner of the Mrs India Universe title at the finals of the ’Mrs India-She is India’ pageant held in New Delhi on Monday night. Birring won the title from among 45 contestants across the country who were vying for the crown. She will now represent India in the Mrs Universe contest to be held in Manila in Philippines in December.The 35-year-old orthodontist told TOI soon after the event, “This is a big achievement for me since the competition was quite tough. I feel really proud and happy.”Besides being judged on their poise and beauty in various rounds like business wear, ethnic wear and evening gown rounds, participants were also quizzed on the tasks they will take up related to the various causes they were supporting.Birring who has a two-year-old son pledged support for the cause of preventing domestic violence and crimes against women. “I feel strongly about illiteracy amongst girls and the prevalence of dowry system in our country because I believe these are the root causes behind almost every problem women are facing in our country today including female foeticide and domestic violence,” she told the jury which comprised of film actors Kunal Kapoor, Aditi Govitrikar and Sangeeta Bijlani among others.When queried by one of the judges on what she believed was the real essence of a woman, her reply was, “The real essence of a woman lies in her courage, strength and dignity. It lies in the love and care she gives and receives and it lies in her warmest hugs.” The reply not only clinched her the crown but also got her the ‘beauty with a purpose’ title.Her husband, Ourvindjeet Singh Birring, also a doctor, said that he felt elated by his wife’s achievement. “It is a proud moment not only for us, but the whole city. I am sure this title will give her a platform to do what she desires for the society.”
