Sanitation workers threaten strike if demands not met soon

Our workers feel cheated as even after so many days the government has not released an order in this regard.”Meanwhile, state urban development minister Madan Kaushik met a group of sanitation workers on Thursday and assured that the government is working on their demands. “The government is working on its promises to provide minimum wages to the sanitation workers as well as to employ them on contracts, and a proposal in this regard has already been sent to the CM’s office and it will be cleared very soon,” Kaushik said.Residents, however, are worried that if the demands of the workers are not met garbage will again be dumped in the city like May. “During their last strike, the city had turned into a garbage dump. If a similar strike happens during the rains, the situation will be even worse,” said Savita Uniyal, a resident of Clement Town.
