Municipal Corp to sterilise stray dogs in Rudrapur set up birth control centre

Rudrapur: Rudrapur Municipal Corporation (RMC) is setting up an animal control centre to curb the population of stray dogs in the city. Experts at the centre will release stray dogs after sterilising them.According to rough estimates, there are over 5,000 street dogs in the city. A proposal to set up the centre at Rs 49.2 lakh was sent to the state government which has released Rs 23.8 lakh. The land to set up the centre has also been identified. Commissioner of the RMC, Jay Bharat Singh, said the centre would be functional soon.

Experts at the centre will release stray dogs after sterilising them.According to rough estimates, there are over 5,000 street dogs in the city. Commissioner of the RMC, Jay Bharat Singh, said the centre would be functional soon. “We have identified a land near district veterinary hospital to establish the centre. About 20 dogs will be sterilised per day.”Meanwhile, Dr Sarpreet Singh Thind, a city-based veterinarian, said, “More than 250 dog-bite cases are reported every day in the city. If such precautionary steps were taken earlier, the problem would not have worsened.”
