Dengue cases touch 113 in Uttarakhand

Confirming the rise in dengue cases in the district, chief medical officer Dr Prem Lal said, “We have conducted fogging and spraying of larvicides in over 4,000 houses. Majority of cases in Haridwar have surfaced from Roorkee (16), Padli Gujjar village (10), Rampur (2), Salimpur (2) and Teliwala (2). Dehradun: With 23 more people from Haridwar being diagnosed with dengue , the total number of such cases has touched 113 in the state since July 1.The highest number of cases have been reported from Haridwar (44) followed by state capital Dehradun (26), Tehri Garhwal (24) Nainital (13) and Pauri (1).According to health department officials, lack of awareness and proper sanitation have contributed significantly to the spurt in dengue cases. We are also spreading awareness among locals about ways to check the spread of the disease.”Subhash Joshi, district malaria officer of Dehradun, said, “Eight persons in the district are suspected to have contracted the disease during their trips to Delhi and Bangalore.”State’s first dengue death was registered on August 29, wherein a 38-year-old man from Pauri succumbed to the mosquito-borne virus in Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust, Jolly Grant.Meanwhile, Uttarakhand has also recorded 11 cases of chikungunya from January till date.
