Dehradun: Four class XII students from the boarding school in the city who were arrested on charges of gang-raping a class X student of the same school allegedly committed the crime after watching porn clips on their mobile phones. Police sources told TOI that one of the accused students in his statement before the magistrate said that he was instigated to commit the crime after watching a porn movie.Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Dehradun Nivedita Kukreti said, “It has emerged during investigation that the accused watched porn movies on their mobile phones and committed the crime.”Incidentally, in July this year, an 8-year-old girl was gang-raped in Sahaspur area in Dehradun by five minor boys, who later confessed to committing the assault after having watched pornography on a mobile phone.Ashok Kumar, additional director general of police (ADG) law and order, told TOI, “We are witnessing more such cases these days where victims and accused are both minors. Easy access to porn sites on mobile phones is contributing to sexual offences by minors. We are chalking out a plan to deal with this.”Psychologist Dr Veena Krishnan said that parents should supervise their children’s exposure to technology.“Teenagers may be more vulnerable to give in to their biological urges. Counselling can help in such situations,” she said.
