Attempts not being made to address issues: Students’ union prez

Dehradun: The newly appointed office bearers of the students union complained that the higher education minister Dhan Singh Rawat did not listen to their demands and complaints when they were called for a conference of all student union office-bearers in Dehradun on Saturday.Student leaders alleged that the minister and chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat just gave their speeches, made a few announcements and left. “Simultaneous elections of gram pardhans, chhetra panchayat representatives, block pramukh, legislators and MPs will save money, energy and time.”While the minister could not be approached for a comment, a source close to him said that he had to attend an important meeting. “We were called to present our demands before the minister and look at possible solutions but no attempts were made to address our concerns,” said Nivedita Raj Sirola, newly elected president of Dehradun’s MKP College.In the conference, the minister made several announcements like limiting the days of the academic session to 200 working days and to implement the dress code as well.On the occasion, the CM also called for simultaneous election.
